Global Wind Energy (GWE), an Israeli joint venture between the Ampal Group and Clal Energy, has been awarded an initial production licence for a 41MW wind power plant near Karditsa, in central Greece. GWE will build the facility in 2011.

The company reports another 110MW at various stages of development in Greece. It is considering buying a further 60MW, which have or are close to receiving full construction permission. Founded in 2007 to develop and build renewable energy projects, GWE is also active in Poland and other European markets.
