The plant is the country's largest to date and is also a first for domestic operator Zorlu, via its subsidiary Rotor Elektrik.

US giant GE supplied the 54 2.5MW turbines, while the €200 million project financing came from a combination of equity and loans from international development banks (Windpower Monthly, October 2009).

In addition to electricity sales, the plant will earn revenue from selling its voluntary emissions reduction credits (VERs) to Ireland-based EcoSecurities.
