The money comes from the Northern Wind Innovation Programme—a partnership of three northern regional development agencies.

The north of England is positioning itself as a centre for the UK’s offshore wind business. The projects sharing in the pot of money focus on AC/DC electrical conversion, foundation installation and gearbox improvements.

Among the winners are the development of an onshore assembly system for faster installation of offshore wind turbines based on Xanthus Energy’s SeaBreeze foundation system; and a solution to fatigue of gearbox bearings, led by Ricardo.
