Enel Green Power said the wind farm now ranks as its largest in the Italian market. Sa Turrina Manna first became operational in 2003 with capacity of 23.8 MW made up from 850 kW machines from Spanish manufacturer Gamesa.

The new capacity comes from 40, 1.5 MW turbines from U.S. manufacturer General Electric.  Enel said the wind farm, located in the municipalities of Tula and Erula in the province of Sassari, would produce about 126 GWh of electricity annually.

The Italian company currently has three wind farms operating on Sardinia with combined capacity of 161 MW.

Later in 2010, Enel said it expects to begin construction of another wind farm in Sardinia, a roughly 100 MW facility in Portoscuso, which once completed should take over the claim to being its largest Italian wind farm.
