The development, run by community-owned wind company Lake Country Wind Energy, in central Minnesota will use REpower MM92 2.05MW turbines for the project’s first phase.

The deal marks the first time REpower has won a contract in Minnesota. Recently the company has supplied turbines for projects in Washington, Oregon, Indiana, Michigan and California.

REpower CEO Per Hornung Pedersen said the order was proof the US wind market was beginning to pick up some momentum.

Pedersen said: "The US market is gradually starting to recover. This order and the other signed contracts in the last few months show that our North American business is slowly picking up again."

National Wind co-chair Jack Levi said the deal meant the first phase of the wind farm’s construction was on target for late 2010.
