Toshuku Electric to begin accepting wind power from JWD wind farm

JAPAN: Tohoku Electric was due to start accepting battery-mediated wind power from Japan Wind Development's (JWD) 40 MW Futamata wind farm, in Rokkasho Village, Aomori Prefecture, for the first time in December.

Tohoku Electric has been examining output data from the wind farm since it began operations in August 2008 and is confident power can be supplied reliably. At the end of 2008, Tohoku Electric said it could accept up to 850 MW of wind power on to its network, but that a certain proportion would only be accepted on the condition it was backed up by battery storage.
