Wind wire: Borkum contract

German energy company Trianel has moved one step further with its Borkum West 2 offshore wind project, signing a preliminary purchase contract for 40 Multibrid 5 MW turbines for the first phase of the project.

Eighty turbines are planned for the wind farm. Trianel says it is in negotiations with potential strategic investors to shoulder the other 40. The final decision to build the whole project is expected next spring, once all financial contracts have been signed, the company says. Trianel itself is owned by around 40 municipal energy companies based in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
