Wind wire: Italian contract

American turbine manufacturer GE Energy has secured a contract to supply 29 of its 2.5 MW units to Italian wind developer Gruppo Energia & Servizi.

The turbines will be installed across three projects in southern Italy, which are planned to be operational by end 2010 - the 42.5 MW Racalmuto wind farm in Sicily, and the Lacedonia and Ginestra degli Schiavoni wind farms, both 15 MW, being constructed in the region of Campania. Energia & Servizi has already used 1.5 MW GE turbines on its 15 MW wind farm in Foiano di Valfortore and 6 MW Montefalcone di Valfortore project in Campania.
