Canada runs wind power projects in each province

Wind power projects are now operating in every Canadian province following October's commissioning of the 102 MW Bear Mountain Wind Park in British Columbia.

The C$200 million project, comprising 34 Enercon 3 MW turbines, was completed on budget and ahead of schedule. Bear Mountain is the first foray into wind for its owner, Calgary’s Altagas Income Trust, and the first wind project in Canada’s westernmost province.

Its completion is a "milestone event" for both, says Altagas chief executive officer David Cornhill. The project is located at the outskirts of Dawson Creek in the northeast part of the province.

Bear Mountain is the fifth wind facility to come on line in Canada this year, bringing the country’s total installed capacity to 2957 MW.
