Some 441 registered projects are vying to compete for the PPAs. Of those, 58% submitted their wind data documentation by the November 3 deadline. Now, technical specialists have asked for more time to assess the bids, the ministry says. The registered projects have a combined capacity of 13.34 GW, spanning 11 states with 322 projects (9.54 GW) in the north and 111 (3.59 GW) in the south. The auction is expected to award PPAs for just 1 GW at most, however. Pedro Perrelli, president of Brazil's wind energy association, Abeeolica, plays down the postponement of the auction and says he does not expect further delay from the government.
Wind Wire: Auction delay
Brazil's first auction of power purchase agreements (PPAs) specifically for wind energy has been postponed from November 25 to December 14 due to a large volume of pre-auction submissions, says Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy.
