"The more wind turbines downloaded, the stronger the call to world leaders to agree the reductions necessary to avert climate change and to make wind energy part of the solution." GWEC is the official representative body of the global wind energy industry. The widget was made available from the GWEC web site on Global Wind Day, June 15.
Wind farm open days, exhibitions and theatre shows were among over 200 events organised in 35 countries to celebrate Global Wind Day on June 15. "The Wind Day is the chance for people to actively show their support, and it is a real pleasure to see how much fun can be had at the same time," says Christian Kjaer of the European Wind Energy Association. Steve Sawyer of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) was pleased at the participation of countries outside traditional wind energy markets, such as Cameroon, Japan, Uruguay and New Zealand. GWEC took the occasion to launch its new campaign, "Wind Power Works - Pass it on."
