Contracts under the fifth Non-Fossil Fuel Obligation could be announced as early as September 24 if the bidding process goes according to plan. The deadline for submission of bids was August 21. But the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) warns that any delay in finalising contract schedules could prevent the announcement of contract winners until November. The DTI is asking trade associations such as the BWEA to bring pressure to bear on their members to ensure that the quality of their bids for power purchase contracts is up to scratch. This is to avoid time consuming exchanges between the Non-Fossil Purchasing Agency, OFFER and the generators, and keep the order to its tight timetable.
