Contract with Vestas for 600 kW at Kooragang Island

Utility energyAustralia has announced the signing of "a million dollar" contract with Danish wind company Vestas to supply and install a V44 600 kW turbine at Kooragang Island, an industrial area in Newcastle some 120 km north of Sydney. The turbine is scheduled to be in operation by July this year. Commenting on rumours of a soon to be developed multi-megawatt wind farm in the area, energyAustralia's Neil Gordon says "there was a lot of talk about that, but it is ill-informed and wishful thinking." However, he says energyAustralia is looking at other sites, including Victoria's Toora area, for potential wind power developments. EA has also entered into a commercial agreement with Pacific Power to refurbish a demonstration 150 kW Windmaster turbine at Malabar east of Sydney.
