Gamesa in joint venture to supply steel towers

Gamesa has joined forces with Spanish industrial company Daniel Alonso Group in a bid to become a world leading supplier of steel towers for wind turbines. The firms are combining their tower manufacturing businesses to form a new joint venture company, of which Daniel Alonso will hold 68%. The new business is kicking off with four factories in Spain with a combined production capacity for over 2000 MW of towers a year. Daniel Alonso Rodríguez, president of the Daniel Alonso Group, says the company expects to secure a market share of at least 10% by 2008. For Gamesa, the deal fits with its strategy of creating alliances with main suppliers and guaranteeing component supplies, notes company president Guillermo Ulacia.
