A joint venture between Italian renewable energy developer Sorgent.e and Germany's Renerco known as CRE Project is bearing its first fruit with the construction of two wind farms in the southern Italian region of Basilicata. The plants, with a combined capacity of 28.5 MW, are located at sites in Rotondella and Campomaggiore and are using Nordex 1.5 MW machines made in Germany. Daniele Boscolo of Padua-based Sorgent.e says there is no capacity target for the venture, which is also working on developing other sites. "We want to do as much as possible and we have a good portfolio of projects but the [Italian] market is rather complicated," he says. Grid connection for the two wind farms is expected for June 2008.
