Sake wine producer Ichinokura installs two turbines

A producer of Japan's sake wine, the Ichinokura Company, plans to install two Mitsubishi 1 MW wind turbines on farm land near its headquarters in Miyagi prefecture. First it will undertake a year long assessment of wind speeds in the area to make sure the annual average is not below a minimum of 5 m/s. If winds are sufficient, the company expects to have the turbines online in 2007. Investors in the project, aside from Ichinokura, will include local government and a local soy sauce producer. Japan's New Energy and Industrial Development Organisation is providing ยด5 million for an associated wind power generation field test program. Up to 30% of the energy will be used by Ichinokura and the soy sauce company, with the excess sold to utility Tohoku Electric Power.
