Independent renewable electricity trader Unit Energy Ltd launched its product into the fully liberalised UK market at the end of September. Unit Energy -- formerly known as WRE UK -- is aiming its green electricity from renewable sources at the domestic and small business market in England and Wales. The company is a joint venture between pan-European energy supplier Unit Energy Europe AG of Germany and UK renewables investment company ESD Ventures Ltd. It is the only non-public electricity supplier to receive a stamp of approval under "Future Energy" -- a green accreditation scheme run by the Energy Saving Trust and endorsed by the government. According to Unit Energy's Brian Swindells, the company has identified a substantial demand in Britain for truly renewable energy. It supplies primarily electricity from wind and hydro sources, rejecting some forms of "renewables" such as energy from waste. The company is well positioned to become the leading supplier within the new green power market, claims Swindells. "We have a number of supply contracts in place and our customer services centre is up and running." Unit Energy began its campaign with a series of full page advertisements in the national press.
