FPL Energy has filed a long-awaited conditional use permit for a slightly downsized wind farm at Addison, Wisconsin. The US developer believes the revised application will meet noise and other concerns some in the community have voiced for a year. After several landowners backed out of the initial proposal, the number of NEG Micon 900 kW turbines has now fallen from 33 to 28, and the capacity from about 30 MW to 25 MW. The plant will now operate as a merchant facility since utilities Wisconsin Electric and Alliance Energy backed out of a contract for the project's output, says FPL's Dave Herrick.
