Aiming for cheaper solar power

The Boral Energy conglomerate has joined researchers at the Australian National University in a A$3.6 million, three year solar roofing project to commercialise the "epilift" solar cell technology pioneered by ANU's Andrew Blakers. "Boral is aiming to reduce the cost enough to make it competitive for homes and businesses in the capital cities," says Boral's John Hayward. Boral's A$5 billion-a-year energy and building materials business is "uniquely placed" to develop and market a roofing solution with solar power, he adds.
