Spanish developer GEA orders RePower turbines
1 April 2002
Generaciones Eléctricas Alternativas (GEA), a small developer in the province of Toleda in Castile-La Mancha, has ordered 12, 1.5 MW turbines from Germany's RePower Systems AG. It is the company's first order for Spain, though RePower claims to have letters of intent to supply 58 MW to a subsidiary company in Galicia, Eólicas de Touriñan in Galicia, though site permits are pending. Eólicas de Touriñan has plans for 100 MW in the region. RePower Systems is also believed to have submitted plans to regional authorities for supplying turbines in Castile and León and Castile-La Mancha, with a supply plan for Aragón underway. For its first Spanish order, RePower will order towers and some other components from Spain. Late last year, RePower transferred technology rights for the MD-70 1.5 MW to Gamesa Eólica, Spain's dominant turbine manufacturer, following its bust up with Vestas of Denmark, though Gamesa has still not announced any orders for the machine.
