GL buys Scottish marine specialist
1 May 2009
Germanischer Lloyd (GL), an international technical assurance and consulting company based in Germany with substantial activities in the wind sector, has taken full ownership of Noble Denton, a British firm offering lifecycle marine and offshore engineering services from its base in Aberdeen. The deal means GL now has a division with 900 staff specialising in transport of wind turbines for the offshore sector. Noble Denton's expertise includes providing technical analysis, cost calculations and expert reports on transport and installation risks in offshore wind for insurance companies. It also has practical experience in transport, delivery and installation, with subsidiaries like Poseidon Maritime, specialised in dynamic positioning of vessels during unloading at sea. Adding to its existing 5500 employee base, GL now operates in 80 countries. The price of the acquisition was not revealed.
