Wallonia to get first wind farm

Google Translate

Wallonia is to get its first wind farm after Electrabel was finally granted permission to go ahead with a EUR 9.6 million project. The decision to grant approval for four 2 MW turbines at Bütgenbach in Roderhöhe, eastern Belgium, came after a three year consultation period. Construction of the wind farm should take six months with first electricity being supplied in the spring. It will generate around 16 million kWh annually, enough to power 5000 households. The wind farm is just one of many planned for Belgium by Electrabel. Excluding offshore wind farms, the company has applied to build 86 turbines throughout the country with a combined capacity of 130 MW. More than half of this capacity (34 turbines with a combined capacity of 72 MW) is targeted for Wallonia.
