Epcor power contract terminated

Epcor Utilities Inc and the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) have mutually agreed to terminate the renewable energy supply agreement for Epcor's 60 MW Kingsbridge II wind project. The project was selected through a request for proposals in November 2005 and was required under the resulting power purchase agreement to be in service by the end of last month. But delays in obtaining provincial and municipal approvals led the company to announce in January 2007 that it was "re-examining plans" for the project. Epcor decided to terminate the contract after determining it "would be unable to meet the contract conditions as a result of circumstances beyond its control." The company is based in Edmonton.
