Gurelur, a Spanish conservationist group based in Navarra, is planning to take legal action against the construction of the 20 or so wind farms the regional government plans to build there over the next 15 years or so. Gurelur's Antonio Monilla says the wind project, which will boast over 1000 turbines when finished, would ruin the countryside, cause visual impacts, endanger wildlife and sow some of the most beautiful scenic spots with high tension cables and roads. "Our lawyers are looking at the situation to see what we can do to stop this disaster," says Monilla. Gurelur claims that the stipulated environmental impact reports carried out as part of the project were largely executed too hastily to allow for a proper assessment of possible damage to the environment.
