The Japanese agent of Vestas, United Chemical Products Co, has licensed Daio Construction Co, in Koichi city, Shikoku island, to sell and install Vestas turbines all over Japan. Daio has founded a wind power division to take care of the business. To start with, Daio will mainly target public sector institutions. It hopes to sell around ten, 600 kW turbines a year, says Daio's Tetsuhiro Hirota. The company has already developed three projects with Vestas turbines: a 225 kW turbine in an ocean park in Niigata prefecture; another 225 kW unit for a golf course at Tosayamada in Koichi prefecture, that is run by a Daio affiliate; and a 660 kW project which it is still developing on Miyako Island in Okinawa prefecture.
