Companies hoping for financial support from the EU's Altener program have until the end of this month to submit their proposals. A request for tenders was issued in late May for proposals in five categories. Altener's aim is to promote the renewable energy market by supporting a broad range of infrastructure activities such as the development of market strategies, development of norms and standards, the holding of conferences and seminars and educating and training programs. For "pilot actions," "promotion and dissemination measures" and "targeted actions" Altener provides 50% support. For projects in the "studies and actions" category, 100% support is available. In a special category for "monitoring and support actions" in connection with the EU's White Paper on Renewable Energy, Altener also provides 100% support. To be eligible for inclusion in the Altener program, project participants must be non-affiliated and must come from at least two EU member states or other eligible countries. These include many of the central European countries as well as those from the European Economic Area. Altener is administered by the EC's Directorate General for energy, DG XVII.
