German developers join forces to speed market entrance

German project developers Energiekontor and WindSolar have joined forces to speed their entrance onto the Spanish wind market. The two say they are co-operating in the development of several wind stations in Spain with a combined capacity of 700 MW. WindSolar will be responsible for the complete technical planning. Energiekontor will install and operate the wind stations, secure financing and market project shares. The companies, which both have Spanish subsidiaries, stress their co-operation will bring optimal synergy effects thanks to shared investments and their respective experience. Assuming licensing procedures run smoothly, construction of the first wind station should begin in 2002. Energiekontor Iberia is based in Barcelona and WindSolar's Spanish subsidiary is located in Albacete. The co-operation follows a deal in early 2000 between Energiekontor and Spanish company Luz de Viento of Seville for development of wind stations in central Spain totalling 26 MW.
