Vestas owners take action

For a long time, owners of wind turbines in the Netherlands delivered by Vestas Wind Systems have been dissatisfied about the quality of their turbines. They are also disappointed over the way Vestas is handling the problems and the way Vestas is acting with regard to regular maintenance work.

For these reasons, the owners have decided to join forces and have now founded a "users platform" for owners of Vestas wind turbines. The goals of this "platform" are: improvement of the position of its members, improvement of the availability of the turbines, and getting Vestas to perform better than it does now with regard to the stated problems.

In September we held the inaugural meeting of the group behind the initiative. All members present decided unanimously to found the Dutch users platform for owners of Vestas wind turbines. On October 23, the articles of the association were formally passed by the notary. Meantime, a large number of owners have applied for membership and their number is growing and growing.

Within one month of the founding of the platform, the group of owners who have applied for membership represent a combined installed capacity of more than 135 megawatts. Among the members are farmers, project developers, wind station owner co-operatives and even a big oil company.

The board appointed by the members is working hard at the moment to further develop the platform. As well as practical matters, we are preparing a policy paper for publication in the near future in order to realise the objectives of the platform.

Owners of Vestas wind turbines in the Netherlands who are not yet members can apply for membership by sending an e-mail to:
