HSW 250 kW throws blades

Two blades were thrown from an HSW 250 kW machinein the Nordstrand region, north of Husum in Schleswig-Holstein on February 18. The turbine, which had been in operation for about five years, shed the blades during a period of strong winds with gusts of up to 35 m/s. HSW is still awaiting a final report on the incident to establish whether the problem was due to blade failure, fatigue or some other reason. All blades used by HSW are manufactured by Abeking and Rasmussen Faserverbundtechnik of Lemwerder in Germany.
