NEG Micon is in the process of taking over one of its suppliers, DanControl Engineering A/S, which makes control systems for the wind turbine industry. A letter of intent was signed by the companies on March 5. The move is described by NEG Micon as another step in its "continuous efforts on consolidating its technology within production of blades and control systems." DanControl has 40 employees and "possesses some relevant patents within the area" according to NEG Micon. The deal was due to be closed at the end of last month. In its just released annual report, NEG Micon announces a profit before tax for the last nine months of 1997 of DKK 46.1 million on a turnover of DKK 1.5 billion. NEG Micon, the world's second largest wind company, was formed last year from the merger of Micon with Nordtank Energy Group. The company describes its nine months of existence in 1997 as an "excellent year" and the result as "satisfactory." NEG Micon manufacturers wind turbines in Spain, India, the UK, the US and Canada as well as in Denmark. The company projects a before-tax profit for this year of DKK 100 million.
