Two wind resource assessments on the Gaspe Peninsula

Google Translate

Two wind resource assessments are underway on the Gaspe Peninsula in eastern Quebec in an area highly exposed to winds on the south shore of the St Lawrence River. The Quebec Ministry of Energy and Resources has awarded $100,000 to Montreal company Project Eole to conduct a wind resource study in the Cap Chat region. Kenetech Corporation is also undertaking its own detailed wind measurement programme from Mont Joli to Cap Chat, part of a power purchase agreement with Hydro Quebec under which the utility has agreed to buy power from some 40 MW of contracted wind capacity installed in two wind farms (Windpower Monthly, January 1993). The contracts require Kenetech to complete a wind resource assessment on the Gaspe by summer 1994 to locate the wind farms. Project Eole intends to produce wind regime maps to determine optimal wind energy sites in the area and will analyse historic data from monitors at Cap Chat in co-operation with the University of Quebec at Rimouski and possible other partners.
