Npower project relocating away from English shipping lanes
1 July 2006
Npower Renewables, the developer of the largest wind farm slated for the Greater Wash off the east coast of England, is looking to relocate its project. At 1200 MW, Triton Knoll is also the largest proposed offshore wind farm in the UK. But npower's preferred site -- in the North Sea, south-east of the Humber estuary and outside the 12 nautical mile territorial limit -- is crossed by shipping lanes. The company says that although it is considering its options for relocating, it is still keeping open the option of its original site. The project is not high up its development agenda, however. "We are working on a longer timescale for Triton Knoll," says a spokesperson. "We are still progressing it but it is on a slower path than our other projects."
