Positive outcome to planning rejection
1 September 1998
A refusal of a planning application for a single wind turbine could yet have a positive outcome for developer Western Windpower. Great Yarmouth councillors turned down plans for an Enercon 1.5 MW E66 turbine adjacent to an existing wind farm near Somerton in Norfolk because they say they had promised local residents years ago there would be no more turbines apart from the existing ten Vestas machines. However, since the planning committee claims to be in favour of wind energy in principle, it asked its planning officer to suggest alternative sites in the area. The company is now in discussion with the council over a possible site for four E66 turbines at Great Yarmouth Harbour.
