Montenegro's government plans to issue a call for tenders to develop a 10 MW wind farm on Rumija Mountain at the beginning of 2009, according to its energy sector action plan. Wind project developers from Spain, China, America and Italy have all expressed interest, reports Energo, a news service based in the UK. It quotes a government source as saying that Spain's Iberdrola stands out among them. Montenegro's public energy supplier, EPCG, is to buy all the electricity produced. There are several locations with good wind power potential along the Adriatic coast, according to the action plan, but the area of Rumija, between Bar and Skadarsko Lake, is the top candidate. It has average wind speeds of 6-7 m/s and is close to the electricity network. The project will be the first under Montenegro's plan, agreed last year, to develop 60 MW of wind plant.
