Wind generation up a third in 1998

Electricity from wind in the UK increased by 33% in 1998. According to the Department of Trade and Industry's recently published energy statistics, renewables increased overall last year by 27%, generation from hydro by 27% and from biofuels by 25%. Renewables provided 2.6% of total electricity-up from 2.1% in 1997. Renewables funded under the Non Fossil Fuel Obligations accounted for 1% of UK generation.
