Winergy expands product portfolio beyond gearboxes

On the back of strong growth, one of the wind industry's major gearbox suppliers, Winergy, is expanding its wind power product portfolio to include electrical, automation and condition monitoring products and systems, says the company's Stefan Tenbrock. The new product range is being developed by adapting technology from Siemens, which acquired Winergy's parent company, Flender, back in 2005. Winergy currently holds about 45% of the world wind turbine gearbox market and around 25% of the wind turbine generator and inverter market. Turnover last year grew to EUR 525 million from EUR 368 million in 2005. "Growth will continue in 2007," says Tenbrock. "Today one in two wind turbines installed worldwide is equipped with at least one Winergy drive assembly." The company is also planning to start up a new 14 MW test rig soon, mainly for testing new prototype multi-megawatt gearbox units.
