An Ontario city is using a C$50,000 federal grant to see if it has what it takes to attract outside investment in a wind power project to feed into its municipally-owned distribution grid. North Bay, located about 330 kilometres north of Toronto, is tapping into the government's Green Municipal Funds to study the feasibility of wind development in the area and develop a business case for investors. "Taking advantage of locally available green power resources is a good fit with the long range development strategy we have for the community," says Mayor Victor Fedeli. Toronto's West Wind Development, an affiliate of UPC Wind Development, a company with activities in Europe and the US, recently installed monitoring equipment on city land and will collect data for 12 months to evaluate the wind power potential.
