Not even the Ministry of Economic Affairs believes anymore in its ambitious target to install 1000 MW of wind in the Netherlands this century. Economy minister Hans Wijers has admitted to parliament, in a note on energy saving, that the rate of wind development, currently 30 MW a year, is far too slow. Even if this was increased to 90 MW a year only 600 MW is possible by 2000. Or, as the minister puts it, "with this speed of installation the 1000 MW target will be reached a little later than the year 2000."
