EDP Renováveis, the renewable energy arm of Portuguese utility EDP, has bought 76 Vestas 3 MW turbines for two wind projects with a combined capacity of 228 MW in Romania. Vestas said the first turbines should be installed by the end of the year, but further details on the projects were not released. EDP Renováveis entered the Romanian market late in 2008, with the acquisition of local wind developers Renovatio Power and Cernavoda Power. The order is the second major contract Vestas has announced in Romania since January. Local developer Monsson Alma is using 67 Vestas 3 MW turbines for two projects with a combined capacity of 201 MW in the Constanta region (Windpower Monthly, March 2009).
