Construction work has begun on a 15 MW wind station in the Italian province of Avellino, about 50 kilometres east of Naples. The EUR 16 million plant will consist of 1 MW Fuhrländer turbines and is due to come online in March 2003. It is being built by German company Harpen, the renewables subsidiary of energy giant RWE, and will be its first Italian wind station. The turbines are being installed in the two parishes of Sturno and Frigento. The station's annual output of 33 million kWh will be fed into the grid of the national network operator, Gestore della rete di trasmissione nazionale SpA.
