Tubular towers for Kenetech

Towers for Kenetech Windpower's 33M-VS may be built higher than the current 80 to 120 feet, says URS Consultants Inc which has prepared complete structural and prototype designs for the towers. URS, a subsidiary of URS Corporation, worked on the tubular towers for the Kenetech turbines now installed in Minnesota for Northern Power Systems and on the company's lattice towers, says the company's Martin Czarnecki. The towers must sustain large dynamic loads from wind load, earthquakes, ice loading and metal fatigue. The company has been working with Kenetech on three or four assignments over a couple of years.
