Just two finalists -- Denmark's energy majors Elsam and Energi E2 -- remain in the bidding for the contract to build the government sponsored 200 MW extension of the 160 MW Horns Reef offshore wind farm in the North Sea. The third contender, the Horns Rev II consortium, did not pass the prequalification round. The consortium's seven small Danish development and investment companies, however, are still involved in prequalification for the other offshore demonstration plant in Denmark, the 200 MW Rødsand extension of the 165 MW Nysted plant in the Baltic Sea. Both projects are moving much slower than anticipated, due to the Danish department of energy's work on the new long term energy plan, according to a source in the department. News of the Horns Reef winner and Rødsand finalists was expected before the summer break in Denmark.
