In deep water: The first of six Repower 5 MW turbines for the 30 MW phase of C-Power's EUR 800 million, 300 MW Thornton Bank offshore wind farm off Zeebrugge in the Belgian North Sea is in place. It is the country's first wind plant at sea. The turbines were assembled on site to cuts costs, with the two part tower erected on its gravity based foundation, before the pre-assembled rotor was hoisted into place. The work was done using jack-up barges in water depths of 25 metres. All six turbines will come online this month, with the rest following in 2009-2011.
