Contracts granted for 20 MW

Two wind developers have won contracts totalling 20 MW to supply electricity to Japanese utility Chubu Electric Power Co. The first project, Aoyama Kogen Wind Farm in Tsu, is owned by the Tsu City authority, Japanese Lagerwey turbine agent NKK Corp, and local companies. The other wind farm will be run by a real estate company, TNR in Toba. The two projects will start in 2003 and the price will be subsidised from the Chubu Green Electric Power Fund. Whether the projects go ahead will depend on them being granted subsidies from the Japanese organisation for promotion of new energy, NEDO. Public corporations can get a 50% government subsidy for wind projects and the private sector 33%.
