Austria's largest wind station is being built near the town of Bruck an der Leitha close to where Austria borders Slovenia and Hungary. The AUS 115 million project of five 1.8 MW Enercon E66 turbines is due on-line this month at a site with high average annual wind speeds for Austria of 6.2 m/s. Enercon estimates annual output will meet the electricity needs of more than a quarter of Bruck's households. The town is hoping the wind station will become a tourist attraction. One of the turbines is to have a 60 metre high observation platform.
