Public positive on green price premiums

Two recent public opinion surveys in Germany reveal that customers are more than willing to pay extra for electricity generated from renewable energy sources. In a survey for utility RWE Energie, the Forsa public opinion research institute found that four out of five customers were ready to pay a 1% premium on their electricity bills -- or around DEM 10 per household per year. Almost two thirds said they would pay an additional DEM 10 per month or more for clean electricity. A similar survey by the Aachen solar energy association confirms these results. It also reveals that 59% of those asked thought an additional charge to support the development of renewable energy should be automatically included in all electricity prices, while 28% thought such a charge should be voluntary
