Multi-megawatt scale wind turbines are to hit the Japanese market from next year. Nordex Borsig Energy's Japanese agent, Ishikawajima Harima Heavy Industries, says it will be supplying a 2.5 MW turbine from early next year. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries reports it is developing a 2 MW model and has already sold a 1 MW turbine. NEG Micon is readying a 2 MW design for the Japanese market, while Lagerwey's agent, NKK, says it is expecting to introduce 1.5 MW model before the end of the year. Vestas, meantime, has already sold its first 1.65 MW turbines. Concerns about transporting the large components on Japanese roads are being raised, however.
