Relight Enerji, the Turkish subsidiary of Italian renewable energy developer and operator Relight, recently received approval to build three wind power plant with a combined capacity of 203 MW in the country's north-eastern Balikesir province. The three projects -- at Sahres (93 MW), Edincik (30 MW) and Tatlipinar (80 MW) -- represent Relight's first entry into the Turkish wind market and an investment of around EUR 300 million. Construction will start this year, with completion scheduled for 2010. The company has submitted applications for another three projects totalling 460 MW to the energy market regulatory authority and reports a further 500 MW at different stages of development in southern Turkey. Relight considers Turkey a key market in its strategy of international growth spurred by the rapid increase in demand for electricity in the country and the liberalisation of its energy sector.
