An online auction in the UK in February of 621 MW of renewable electricity achieved an average price of £0.0626/kWh. The Non Fossil Purchasing Agency (NFPA) was auctioning 245 contracts for output from projects supported under Britain's previous system of support, the non fossil fuel obligation. The contracts, for electricity to be produced between April 1 and September 30, were won by 13 bidders. Prices were slightly down on the last auction six months ago, but Non Fossil Purchasing Agency says electricity produced in summer usually commands lower prices than in winter periods. The average price for electricity from the 71 wind contracts is £0.0641 -- down from an average of £0.665 in the August 2002 auction.
