Maintaining fifth largest wind power market

India has maintained its position as the fifth largest wind power market with a cumulative capacity of just under 1340 MW up to March 2001. Last fiscal year (April 2000 - March 2001) saw 172.30 MW of new capacity installed. Most of this (110.5 MW) went up in the pro-renewables state of Maharashtra. Suzlon Energy, based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, was the most proactive supplier, installing 94.90 MW, more than half of the total, mostly in Maharashtra.
